A Few Details
Although the term “tune-up” is often tossed around, not all drivers know what’s actually involved. Your vehicle’s owner’s manual will specify recommended service points and intervals. Some preventive maintenance practices are completed more frequently than others. Oil changes, fluid checks, and tire pressure monitoring typically occur sooner than the full tune-up. Generally, a tune-up refers to more in-depth services such as planned replacement of worn parts with a somewhat short lifespan and sometimes fluid changes or flushes rather than mere top-offs. For instance, air and fuel filters should be replaced to ensure that flow is not restricted. Also, the spark plug wires, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve, and the oxygen sensor need replacing. One of our technicians will check and clean your spark plugs, too. Cleaning will be sufficient if they’re still good, but we’ll need to replace them if the tip is eroding away or the spark plugs are otherwise damaged. Depending upon the advised schedule, the cabin air filter may need changing, and your auto may need a brake inspection. Likewise, it may be time for a transmission fluid change and/or coolant flush.
